18 June 2015 - COSLA - Reshape local taxation in Scotland

From Adrian Mahoney

Attachments3 Jun  COSLA - working with the Scottish Government - is considering ways to reshape local taxation in Scotland.
As you know I do think the Council Tax freeze has gone on long enough and think it should be unfrozen to allow local authorities to get a little extra money to protect frontline services.

However, I am also happy to consider changes to the system we have just now.

There is, of course, no perfect local taxation system. Rates, poll tax, and now council tax all have their flaws - but all deliver money to provide local services.

The Commission on Local Tax Reform is calling for public views.

You can share these in a very short survey at http://localtaxcommission.scot/tell-us-what-you-think/

I would welcome input from Community Councillors in my area.

Hope you can respond, if you have time!

Best wishes
