We had a pollution issue in the Black Burn at the weekend; this is the second time in the space of ten days. SEPA were alerted and are investigating the source. The pollution is either diesel or heating oil and smells very strongly - we had to have our windows closed it was so strong, but then our kitchen is only 4 metres from the Burn. It started on Saturday at about 5pm and continued through sunday. It is still present today (monday) but the overnight rain has cleared away the the bulk of the residue stranded on vegetation however there is still an oily film on the water surface so it has not stopped yet. So take care if you or your pets, waterfoul or chickens etc go near the burn.
